Documentaries

Documentaries are always about one thing – a story. Whether that story is about someone’s life, an event, a place, or even a product is not the point. Documentaries always serve to present the story of some thing to the viewer. In that respect, they are not totally unlike a feature film – the primary point of differentiation being the nonfictional documentary subject matter vs. the traditionally fictional subject matter of a movie.

At CenterStage, we approach a documentary production similar to that of a feature film. In our opinion, the most important element to a successful documentary is a coherent script that permits a viewer completely unrelated to the subject matter to watch the finished product and understand the story as it develops without having any prior experience with that subject matter. However, most of our clients rarely, if ever, provide us with a script. Instead, we often hear, “Can you video this or can you film that?”

If that sounds like something you would ask, don’t worry! We are more than able to build it on the timeline as they say. In fact, nearly all of our documentary work to date has been produced in this manner. And that’s what makes us a production company and not just a bunch of videographers.
